DeVerl and Martsie Brown Spencer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family luncheon. They were married September 6, 1967, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
DeVerl attended Bonneville High School, where he participated in various athletics and was Seminary President, graduating in 1963. He also served an LDS mission in the Central German Mission. Martsie graduated from Ogden High School in 1964. They met at Weber State College in 1966, where Martsie was active in student government. They both graduated from Weber State with degrees in education.
DeVerl taught history and German for 32 years at Sandridge Junior High and Roy High School. He also served in the Utah National Guard, retiring as a Staff Sergeant after 24 years of service. Martsie taught for 24 years at Municipal, Roy, and Country View Elementary. She also served for 20 years on the Weber Education Association Board of Directors. They are active in their LDS ward and stake, both having served in various callings.
They are the parents of four children: Shannon (Lex) Olson, Kurt Spencer, Trisha (Aaron) McPhie, and Chad (Theresa) Spencer. They also have 11 grandchildren: Sydnee (currently serving in the Frankfurt Germany mission), Kory (currently serving in the Portland Oregon mission), Colton, Addison, Emily, Kaden, Hailey, Konnor, Aubree, Spencer, and Alexa.
DeVerl and Martsie celebrated with a trip to Yellowstone.
