Fremont boys clinch share of Region 1; Clearfield-Davis girls to play tiebreaker

KAYSVILLE — Fremont boys basketball clinched at least a share of the Region 1 title by defeating Davis 65-61 on Tuesday.

Dallin Hall totaled 21 points and six assists, and Baylor Harrop totaled 21 points and nine rebounds for Fremont (15-5, 8-3 Region 1). Cade Hadley knocked down three 3s for 11 points.

Josh Sanders also scored 21 points to lead Davis (14-7, 5-5). Brendon Redford grabbed 10 rebounds.

VIEWMONT 79, BOX ELDER 66

BRIGHAM CITY — Viewmont outscored Box Elder 24-17 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the region road win.

Viewmont (10-11, 5-2 Region 5) shot 15 of 25 from 3-point range. Spencer Mackay scored 25 points with five treys and seven rebounds to lead the Vikings. Josh Mordue had 24 points with six 3s, Kendall Draxler tallied 14 points with two 3-pointers and Chandler Cox added 10 points.

Max Watson scored a game-high 29 points for Box Elder (11-7, 5-1) by shooting 7 of 13 from deep. Tyson Madsen added 12 points and Porter Clawson had six rebounds.

LAYTON 74, CLEARFIELD 45

CLEARFIELD — Layton took a 34-23 halftime lead at Clearfield and cruised to the region road win.

Truman Brown scored 21 points and hit five 3-pointers to lead Layton (13-7, 7-4 Region 1). Brooks Kokkola added 13 points. With one week of league play to go, the Lancers are have a half-game lead on Weber for the No. 2 seed in Region 1.

Carter Buchi scored 14 points for Clearfield (4-15, 0-10) while Antonio Santos netted 11.

WEBER 74, NORTHRIDGE 66

PLEASANT VIEW — Northridge led 54-49 after three quarters, but Weber outscored the Knights 25-12 in the final frame to pick up the region win.

Hudson Schenck had 18 points with three 3-pointers and eight assists to lead Weber (12-7, 6-4 Region 1). Austin Bartholomew scored 16 with four 3-pointers, Kobe Furqueron added 13 and Logan LaFeber netted 11 on three treys. Braedon Iverson pulled down 13 rebounds.

Jovonte Wyllie led Northridge (10-11, 5-5) with 18 points. Alec Duffin scored 12 and Matt Goodrich added 10, each with two 3-pointers.

The result puts Weber in third place with two games to go. Northridge, Davis and Syracuse are all tied for the final playoff spot from Region 1.

ROY 72, WOODS CROSS 58

WOODS CROSS — Roy led 31-27 at the half, then ran away from Woods Cross for the region road win.

Alex Lamb had a game-high 26 points for Roy (5-15, 2-5 Region 5). Kobe Schriver added 14 points with four 3-pointers, while Kyrese Rowan and Ben McBride each added 13.

Dax Gorringe and Jake Howe each scored 15 points to lead Woods Cross (6-15, 1-5). Howe did all his scoring from behind the 3-point line.


GIRLS BASKETBALL

CLEARFIELD 63, LAYTON 43

LAYTON — Haylie Anderson scored 28 points to lead Clearfield to the road win at Layton.

Jill Thalman added 17 points for Clearfield (10-10, 5-7 Region 1). The Falcons sit in fourth place, tied with Davis, and will host the Darts in a tiebreaker game at 5:15 p.m. Thursday to decide the region’s final state tournament berth.

Kaitlyn Viatore scored 11 points to lead Layton (14-6, 8-4). The Lancers will enter the state tournament as the two seed from Region 1 and play their first-round game at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Salt Lake Community College.

FREMONT 57, DAVIS 33

KAYSVILLE — Fremont outscored Davis 29-7 over the second and third quarters to grab the road win and finish Region 1 play undefeated.

Freshman phenom Emma Calvert scored a game-high 23 points to lead Fremont (19-2, 12-0 Region 1). Abby Broadbent added 12. The Silver Wolves will enter the state tournament as the top seed from Region 1. Their first-round game will be 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Salt Lake Community College.

Kami Ober and Teuila Alofipo each scored seven points for Davis (11-10, 5-7). The Darts will play a tiebreaker game at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Clearfield to determine the region’s fourth seed.

BEN LOMOND 51, OGDEN 45

OGDEN — For the first time since 2010, Ben Lomond girls defeated rival Ogden.

Ogden led 32-31 going into the fourth quarter but Ben Lomond outscored the Tigers 20-13 in the fourth to take the cross-town game.

Taylor Abbott had 15 points to lead Ben Lomond (4-14, 2-9 Region 11) and Andie Boothe added 13.

Aleah Knowles scored a game-high 18 for Ogden (3-16, 3-8) while Alayna Brown netted 10 points.

STANSBURY 48, BONNEVILLE 41

STANSBURY PARK — Bonneville (15-5, 10-1 Region 11) saw its 14-game win streak end at Stansbury (15-6, 8-3).

BEAR RIVER 51, MOUNTAIN CREST 34

GARLAND — Bear River led 25-25 at the half, then outscored Mountain Crest (3-17, 0-9 Region 13) 17-2 in the third quarter to take control for the region win.

Rachael Fronk led Bear River (7-13, 3-6) with 13 points and Makenzie Bywater added 11. The win set up the Bears for a potential berth in the 4A state tournament, placing Bear River in fourth place in Region 13 with one game to play.
